Robert Fredrick Peters was born on April 9, 1922, in Stanley Township, Lyon County, Minnesota. He was the son of Herman and Agnes (Kelly) Peters. Robert was baptized, received his first communion, and confirmed at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley, Minnesota. He attended District #86 country school. After seeing several friends enlist to serve, Robert followed in 1943. He was a proud part of the United States Army during World War II. Deployed in 1944, he served over 2 years in England and Germany and was honorably discharged on May 8, 1946.
On January 11, 1951, Robert was united in marriage to Lucille Knieff at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley. The couple farmed the Peters’ family farm near Marshall and raised 3 boys and 3 girls: Byron, Gloria, Jeanette, Eileen, Melvin, and Karl. In 1986, they retired from farming.
Robert was a faithful member of St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley and served the Stanley Township Board from 1965 – 1995 and the St. Clotilde Cemetery Board for many years.
Robert was proud of his farm and cherished the time he was able to spend with his family. His herd of Herefords and a variety of different animals were always well cared for. Often a source of entertainment and conversation with many farm visitors were his donkeys. Robert loved to reminisce and connecting to people through conversation was important to him. Baseball was enjoyed throughout his life. His ties to baseball started when, in his youth, he would pitch and his brother, Roland, would catch. This passion continued when his sons and grandchildren played the game as well. Robert would always lend a hand to a neighbor in need.
Robert Peters entered his heavenly home on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the age of 93 years, and 10 days. Blessed be his memory.
