Shane went to school in Slayton where he graduated in 1989. After school, he served in the United States Army National Guard.
In 1997, Shane was united in marriage to Michelle “Shelly” Staples of Slayton. In this marriage, Shane was given the title of "Dad" with the birth of his daughter, Miranda. They made their home in Russell and were blessed with a daughter, Savanna, and a step daughter, Amber Knakmuhs. Shane was immensely proud to be a dad to all of his girls.
Shane was an avid outdoorsman. He spent his time hunting and fishing; he shared those hobbies with his wife, daughters, and brothers. Shane spent several years racing and he enjoyed motorcycle trips with Nicole. Shane was also known for his stories, each of which were told with enthusiasm and always came with gestures and sound effects. He was always the life of any conversation. Shane had a nickname for everyone, and they usually had one back for him. He would spend hours exchanging jokes and stories with friends and family. Shane's carefree outlook on life was contagious - he was always there to put a smile on the faces of those he loved.
