Shirley Martin, age 83, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Sunday, February 10, 2019, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Memorial Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 15, 2019, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Interment will follow in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., on Friday also at the church.
Shirley Jeanne Wendorff was born on June 11, 1935, to Lloyd and Viola (Albee) Wendorff on her grandparent’s farm in Sodus Township, Lyon County, Minnesota. She grew up in Milroy and Garvin and was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist church. She finished school in Marshall, graduating with the Marshall High School class of 1953.
On August 7, 1954, Shirley was united in marriage to Donald Martin and the couple made their home in Marshall. While raising her sons, Shirley worked as a telephone operator for Northwest Bell. She and Don shared over 48 years of marriage together before his death in May of 2003.
After retirement, Shirley was actively volunteering with Weiner Memorial and then Avera Hospital Auxiliary. She worked in the thrift shop and managed the gift shop for many years. She was also a faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Her enjoyments in life included traveling with Don, playing cards, bowling, gambling, bingo, crafts, sewing, embroidery, counted cross-stitch, reading, and time spent vising at the YMCA and Senior Center.
Shirley Martin died on February 10, 2019, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 84 years, 7 months, and 30 days. Blessed be her memory.
Shirley is survived by her
2 sons, Randy Martin of Marshall, Jeff (and Maria del Rocio) Martin of Marshall; 4 grandchildren, Jeremy, Josh, Jessica, Ignacio “Nacho”; 9 great-grandchildren, Andrea, Travis, Allivia, Addison, Breck, Jasmine, Jaxin, Brooklyn, Brie; other relatives and many friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Donald; and son, Thomas.
