Steve Lionel Buck

Steven Buck, age 68, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at the Morningside Heights Health Care Center in Marshall following a long battle with gastric cancer. Memorial Services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2020, Grace Life Church in Marshall. Walk-through visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. A Prayer Service and sharing of memories will take place at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service, from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 17, at Grace Life Church. Occupancy limits and social distancing must be observed throughout all services. Masks are required at all public indoor gatherings.

Steven Lionel Buck was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on February 26, 1952, to Donald and Mary (Thorvig) Buck. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Steve graduated from Edina High School in 1970 and then went on to Southwest State University in Marshall, Minnesota. Steve graduated in 1974 and then briefly taught at a Christian school in Fridley.

Steve married Kathie Schuler on June 18, 1977, at the Church on the Hill in Lynd, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Marshall and raised two children, Kim and Chris. During this time, Steve was active in the Mustard Seed Faith Band and he began his work of caring for others as a home health aide and personal care assistant. Most recently, he was working with Wildrose Home Care. In 1998, after almost 21 years of marriage, Kathie lost her battle with cancer. Steve was blessed in love a second time and married Sally Moy on August 18, 2008. He was a faithful member of Grace Life Church in Marshall where he taught himself how to play drums as part of the praise team.

Steve was quirky, kind, and humble. He always had a dad joke ready and told many on the way up to the cabin on Ten Mile Lake near Hackensack, Minnesota. He played tennis and racquetball and was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings. Steve watched Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and It’s a Wonderful Life many times over. He would drum on anything (even without a drum in sight) and he liked preparing his famous “Buckachini spaghetti,” accent included.

As Steve’s cancer battle worsened, he spent time in Paynesville before going to Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. Steve died on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at age of 68 years, 6 months, and 17 days.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Buck of Marshall; children, Kim (Andy) Binsfeld of Paynesville, Chris (Danne) Buck of North Mankato; 3 grandchildren, Brooklyn Binsfeld, Braden Binsfeld, Jackson Buck; mother, Mary Buck of Edina; siblings, Greg (Lisa) Buck of Edina, David (Jenny) Buck of Minneapolis, Brenda (Tim) Pask of Blaine; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Steve is preceded in death by his father, Donald Buck; first wife, Kathie Buck; and granddaughter, Emma Jean Buck.
