Steve Richard Larson

Steven Richard Larson, age 57, of Russell, passed away at the Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls on Thursday, February 11, 2010. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, February 15, 2010 at the Grace First Parish in Russell. Burial will be in the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. with a 3:30 P.M. prayer service Sunday at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday, one hour prior to the service.
Steven Richard Larson was born to Richard and Joyce (Heemeyer) Larson on December 30, 1952 in Watertown, South Dakota. He was baptized in the Christian Reformed Church near Castlewood and was confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in White, South Dakota. Steve attended country schools near Bruce and White before graduating from Deubrook High School in 1971.
On June 14, 1975, Steve was united in marriage to Deanna Selleck in the Methodist Church in White, South Dakota. He worked road construction for Halstad construction in Brookings before moving to Russell to work for Duane Kerr. Steve then worked for Severson Tiling, K and K Tiling, and Johnson Trenching. In addition he farmed and raised limousin cattle in Coon Creek Township, purchasing the farm in 1987. He was a proud member of Grace First Parish in Russell and served on several church boards and sang in the choir.
Steve’s enjoyment in life included playing cards, visiting, raising cattle, and farming. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. His great gift was music, which was uplifting to those who listened. Everyone loved his teasing and caring ways!
Steven passed away at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, surround by his loving family on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at the age of 57 years, 1 month and 9 days.
He is survived by his wife, Deanna of Russell; three children, Michael (Shelley) Larson of Pierre, SD, Jeremy Larson of Russell, and Jeffrey Larson of Russell; three grandchildren, Jacob, Emalee, and Samuel; parents, Richard and Joyce Larson of White, SD; mother-in-law, Rose Selleck of White, SD; siblings, Russell (Jill) Larson of White, SD, Virginia (Jim) Heesch of Flandreau, SD, and David (Kim) Larson of Fort Pirerre, SD; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles; also many other relatives and friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jacob and Nettie Heemeyer; paternal grandparents, Samuel Larson and Julia Arnsdorf; and father-in-law, Donald Selleck.
