Tom “Herby” Gemelke, age 56, died peacefully at his residence in Alexandria on Tuesday. It appears that he had a heart attack while sitting in his chair, watching TV. He had just spent a happy weekend with his mother, siblings, daughter and son-in-law, and his beloved grandsons. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 27th at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Tom was a generous man who loved to cook and bake for his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and shooting pool with his son, but his favorite hobby was talking! He was always ready to tell a joke or a story.
Tom was born and raised in the Marshall area, where he owned and operated Able Roofing Company. He moved to North Carolina from 2000 to 2003, but he returned to Minnesota to settle in Alexandria. He spent his final years working in a group home, where the residents enjoyed his commitment and his culinary flair.
Tom is survived by his children (Tom and Tenessa), his grandchildren (Linus and Friday), his mother (Jeannette), and his siblings (Tim, Terry, Taryn, Ruby, Toby, and Regan).
Tom loved children. If you wish to make a charitable donation in his memory, please consider St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
Blessed be the memory of Tom Gemelke
