Thomas Sharratt, age 88, of Marshall and formerly of Lynd, Minnesota, died on Sunday, May 13, 2018, at Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall, Minnesota. Funeral Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Following a reception, interment will be in the Lynd City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., at the Hamilton Funeral Home.
Thomas Gail Sharratt was born on July 14, 1929, in Lynd Township, Minnesota, to Evan and Hattie (VanBreasen) Sharratt. He was a proud member of the 1946 Lynd basketball team that placed second in the state tournament. Tom graduated from Lynd High School in 1947 and went on to earn a teaching degree from SDSU in Brookings, South Dakota.
After college, Tom was drafted into the United Sates Army and served his country in Korea as a forward observer of the artillery. Upon returning home, he taught history, geography, and driver’s education while also coaching basketball. He worked in Byron, Russell, and Milroy, Minnesota.
Tom enjoyed life on the family farm, combine rides, and his pet dogs. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed visiting with friends, spending time with family, and watching sports.
Tom moved to Boulder Estates in 2002 and then to Boulder Creek earlier this year. He died May 13, 2018, at Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center. He had reached the age of 88 years, 9 months, and 30 days. Blessed be his memory.
He is survived by several cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ray; and sister, Corrine.
