Urban Johnson

October 19, 1914 — July 18, 2007

Urban Johnson, age 92, of Balaton, formerly of Marshall, died on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 21, 2007 at Marshall Evangelical Free Church in Marshall. Burial will be in the Sillerud Lutheran Cemetery in rural Balaton. Visitation will be Friday, July 20, 2007 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to the service.
Urban was born October 19, 1914 in Balaton, Minnesota to Ernest and Lena (Olson) Johnson. He graduated from Morris Agricultural School in 1932 and farmed the family homestead in rural Balaton until his retirement in 1977. He also served as Murray County Commissioner for part of that time. After retirement, Urban moved to Marshall where he drove for Swift’s Hatchery, volunteered as a driver for Western Community Action and also delivered Meals On Wheels. He was a member of the church boards at Sillerud Lutheran and Marshall Evangelical Free, where he was also a member. For many years, he was a member of Gideons International.
Urban enjoyed golfing, ice skating, playing softball, and horseshoes. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Urban passed away July 18, 2007 at the age of 92 years, 8 months, and 29 days.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred; children, Laurel Johnson of Marshall and Carleton (and Anne-Marie) Johnson of Tomah, WI; granddaughter, Christina (and Jason) Anderson of Minneapolis; and brother, Norman (and Dorothy) Johnson of Alexandria.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Florence Johnson and Lia McCaril; and infant brother and sister, Russell and Agnes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Gideons International.
