Marshall: Wendell P. Hurst, age 73, of Marshall, passed away at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall from complications of diabetes and dementia on Friday, March 7, 2014.
Celebration of Wendell’s life will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 11th at Wesley United Methodist Church in Marshall. Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service Monday at Hamilton Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Russell City Cemetery at a later date.
Wendell Paul was born on October 2, 1940 in Tyler, Minnesota to Paul Francis and Violet (Peterson) Hurst. He was baptized and confirmed at First United Presbyterian Church in Russell. He graduated from Russell High School and from Mankato State College. Later he moved to Colorado where he attended graduate school at the University of Northern Colorado.
On June 9, 1962 Wendell was united in marriage to Karen Wood at the First Presbyterian Church in Russell. Wendell was a guidance counselor at Clear Lake, IA for 6 years and was a high school guidance counselor at New Hampton, Iowa for 32 years until he retired in 2002. His enjoyments in life were keeping up with the high school, college and professional sports, and he was an avid reader.
He is survived by his wife, Karen of Marshall; two sons, Anthony (Lisa) of Marshall and Greg (Kristen) of Russell; three grandchildren, Mitchell, Levi and Lydia: also many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Nyla Meyers and Shirley and her husband, Calvin Cadwell.
